Don’t Mess with Blizzard.

Friday, April 18th, 2008

Just a few short weeks after posting a rather unfavorable article on Blizzard Entertainment’s copyright litigation strategy, Blizzard Entertainment has banned my World of Warcraft account. I was totally on a sweet quest.

First, I’m amazed that anyone reads my blog. Thanks!

Second, doesn’t “griefing” me violate Blizzard’s Terms of Use?

Third, would everyone please email wowaccountadmin@blizzard.com and tell them I promise to only say good things from now on.

Universal Attacks First Sale Doctrine

Friday, April 11th, 2008

When a record label mails you an unsolicited CD can you legally give it away or sell it? Common sense dictates that you can regift or resell anything you own. The first sale doctrine in copyright law agrees with you (unless its software.) Universal Music Group doesn’t think so and has filed suit against collectibles seller Troy Augusto claiming he’s making unauthorized distribution of UMG’s work by reselling promotional albums.

Trying not to laugh at UMG’s desperation, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has taken up Mr. Augusto’s case.
